COMBINED HUNTS
MEETING AT NEW PLYMOUTH. SALON WINS STEEPLECHASE. ( By Telegraph—Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, September 4. At New Plymouth on Saturday on the second and concluding day of the Combined Hunts’ meeting, favourites went down consistently and there were several surprises, four of the winners returning more than double figures on the straight-out machine. The weather was fine and sunny, and a southerly breeze had dried up the track well, although it was still on the soft side. The totalisator handled £16,046, an increase of £1879 10s. The total for the two days, with 15 races, was £27,105 10s, an increase over last year’s 14 races of £2131.
