MISS N. STUBBS

GUEST OF HONOUR AT PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) Miss Noline Stubbs was the guest of honour at a happy afternoon party held at the Presbyterian Hall, Carterton, on Saturday. The hostesses for the occasion were Mesdames R. Barrett, R. N. Campbell, L. J. Fairbrother, J. V. Gustofsen, H. Meyrick, L. H. Sorensen, Misses M. Smart and Vina Tucker. On arrival Miss Stubbs looking very smart in a London tan costume, was welcomed by the hostesses and was presented with a shoulder spray. Her mother, Mrs A.F . Stubbs, in a niggerbrown ensemble received a posy, as did Mrs H. M. B. Trapp, mother of the bridegroom-elect. The hall which was arranged as a lounge, was tastefully decorated with spring bulbs, violets, wattle and japonica. There was a very representative attendance including many schoolday friends from adjacent towns.

During the afternoon, Mrs M. Worsfold (Carterton) sang very pleasingly, being accompanied on the piano A by Mrs Millar Hope, of Masterton. She was encored for her efforts. Mrs Millar Hope was also recalled after playing a brilliant pianoforte solo. A number of interesting competitions were enjoyed, Miss Rona Chew being the successful competitor.

At an appropriate interval in the proceedings, the hostesses on behalf of all assembled, presented Miss Stubbs with a cheque accompanied by musical honours.

The recipient very gracefully acknowledged the compliment, and thanked everyone including the promoters of the gathering, for their kindness and expressions of goodwill. Miss Stubbs’s remarks were received with much enthusiasm. Afternoon tea was served, and contributed to the undoubted success of the function.
