TRADE UNIONS
INCREASING MEMBERSHIP IN BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 1. Registered trade unions in Britain now have a bigger membership than ever before in the history of the movement, and funds, which have been doubled in the past ten years, now exceed £18,000,000. At the end of 1937, according to the annual returns of the trade unions, there were 433 registered trade unions, which figure is numerically the smallest since 1927 by reason of amalgamation, but the total membership was 4,695,065, which is the highest figure on record.
