WOMEN’S TOURNAMENT. SECTION WINNERS. (By Telegraph —Press Association.) GISBORNE, September 1. Section play in the New Zealand women’s hockey tournament ended this afternoon in showery weather Ashburton, Eastern Southland, and Canterbury are the section winners. Eastern Southland and Canterbury are to play in the semi-final tomorrow, repeating their experience of the last two years. Today’s results were:— Section A: Wairarapa 1, Manawatu 0; Ashburton 2, Wanganui 1. Section B: Auckland 5; Poverty Bay B 0; Taranaki 5; Ruahine 0; Eastern Southland 3; Wellington 0. Section C: Poverty Bay A 4, Akitio 2; Nelson 1, Feilding 1. The teams finished in the following positions:— Section A: Ashburton 8 points, Wairarapa 6, Hawke’s Bay and Wanganui 3, Manawatu 0. Section B: Eastern Southland 10, Auckland 8, Taranaki 6, Wellington 4, Poverty Bay B- 2, Ruahine 0. Section C: Canterbury 8, Nelson and Poverty Bay 4, Feilding 3, Akitio 1. TOMORROW’S REP. GAME. An alteration has been, made in tomorrow’s representative to be played at Lansdowne. The .senior women’s game will now start at 2.30 p.m. on No. 3 ground, while the junior women’s games will commence at 1.45 p.m. on No. 1 ground. In the senior men’s team A. Stubbings is not available for the Wairarapa team, and his place will be filled by H. Worthington (Kiwi). The Wellington team to play Wairarapa is the combination which is tp play Auckland for the N.Z. Shield on Saturday week. The team is as follows:—Goal, J. Marshall (Huia); backs, left—P. Adams (Karori); right, not selected. Halves: Right, F. Newcombe (University); centre, C. Mac Lean (Karori); left, W. Shaw (Karori). Forwards: Right wing, F. Chapman (Hutt); inside right, C. Edwards (Karori); centre, O. Wheatley (Huia); inside left, M. Browne (Karori); left wing, K. Kelly (Technical).
