NEWS OF FORTHCOMING PRODUCTIONS. New Universal has bought a story called “Charlie McCarthy,” Detective” for Edgar Bergen and his dummy. Charlie, who is one of the greatest stars in America today is featured in “The Goldwyn Follies” which comes to the State Theatre shortly. Fred Astaire has a golf dancing scene in “Carefree” during which he throws away his clubs and step-dances the ball into the hole. Douglas Corrigan, the Irish-Ameri-can who flew from New York to Eire “by mistake” in a patch-up nine-year-old plane, last month is taking the principal part in a film for R-K-0 Radio Pictures. It will be entitled “My Flight to Ireland.” Warners plan an all-star cast for “The Gay Nineties” including Dick Powell, George Brent, Humphrey Bogart, Pat O’Brien and Olivia de Haviland. John Barrymore has agreed to be the voice of one of Walt Disney’s creations in the new full-length colour cartoon, “Bambi.”
