HARD AND DRAGGING SALE OVERSUPPLY OF FAT SHEEP (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. August 31. There was an over-supply of fat sheep and increased entries in other sections of the weekly stock market at Addington today. In the store sheep section fair sized pens of particularly good two-tooth ewes sold at 36s 3d to 34s 6d, s.m. halfbreds, 22s 6d, others 17s Bd. Except for the better pens the sale was a hard and dragging one. Ewes and lambs were of poor class, and one pen sold at 12s lid. all counted. There was an entry of more than 600 fat sheep and some good quality was represented in the wethers, but a big proportion of the ewes were light sorts. All round the market was easier by a Is; best sheep to Is 6d. Prices were: —Sheep: For lighter extra prime wethers, 365; prime heavy, 29s to 31s 6d; prime medium-weight, 25s to 28s; others down to 20s; extra prime ewes, 28s 4d; prime heavy, 20s to 245; prime medium-weight, 16s to 18s 6d, others down to 11s 6d. The entry of 455 fat cattle included a good showing of quality steers and heifers, and quality as a whole showed an extremely poor standard for a section of the cow penning. The market was strong from the outset and the advanced rates of last week were increased by fully 20s a head, inferior sorts slightly less. Good beef made 41s to 43s 6d, tops 455, medium, 38s to 40s, heavy 37s 6d to 41s, indifferent down to 30s a 1001 b. Quotations were: — Cattle: Extra prime steers to £2l 12s 6d, prime £l6 15s to £lB 10s, medium £l4 15s to £l6 15s, light to £ll 10s; extra prime heifers to £l5 17s 6d. prime £ll 15s to £l3, medium £lO to £ll 10s, light to £9 10; extra prime cows, £l4 17s 6d, prime £lO 5s to £ll, medium £8 to £9 15s, light to £7. In the fat pig section the porker entry was again on the small side, and choppers were in fair good supply and sold a shade ■ better than last week. Choppers 52s 6d to £7 Is; porkers, 37s 6d to £3 9s 6d; average price a lb, 7jd to B ; Jd. Baconers £3 12s 6d to £5 14s 6d, average price a lb, 7d to 7.3 d.
