ROAD CYCLING

jWAIRARAPA CLUB NOTES ON SATURDAY’S RACE (By “Three-Speed”) The Wairarapa Club’s race on Saturday was the most gruelling the members have had this year. The course was to Blairlogie Hotel and return for the cup donated by Mr Alison. The road was in a very rough condition, and the rain made it very sticky. J. Brader, off 3J min. mark, rode in great style, showing his best form to date. He will hold the cup till next season. K. Woollett, who went very well, gained second place and also gained fastest time honours again. R. Killington, who is showing good form lately, did excellently to gain third place, and also third fastest time. W. Gay, who has done well through the season, found the going a little hard on Saturday, but gamely stuck to his task to gain fourth place. M. Graham, as the result of .machine trouble retired from the race. B. Dooling also found the course a difficult one, and took his time on the return journey. P. Mayes did well going out, but dropped back on the return journey. He kept going, however, and completed the course. R. Copp retired at the Taueru on the return journey. B. Harman was a starter on Saturday, but only lasted for a few miles. The face was too hard for him in view of the fact that he had not ridden for a few weeks. C. Gourlay, L. Green and R. Green were non-starters. C. Dykes was not ■up to his usual form, and also had the misfortune to get a puncture going out. J. McAliece had a puncture on the return. E. Lefort did not start as he has just got over influenza, but hajjes to rides again soon. Saturday’s race was the last race for the points prizes for which the members have been riding lately. There will be three or four more races before the season ends. Next Saturday the club will hold a two-man time trial.
