Six first-grade teams, eight secondgrade and nine third-grade are taking part in the Dominion Basketball championships. which started at Caroline Bay this morning under ideal conditions. The visitors were welcomed by the Mayor, Mr W. G. Tweedy. Results:— Second grade: Southland Minor beat Ashburton, 23/16; Wairoa beat Wairarapa. 22/13; Manawatu beat Hutt Valley, 20/15: South Canterbury beat Waikato, 29/14; Ashburton beat Wairarapa, 19/17. Third grade: Wanganui beat Hawke’s Bay Minor, 32/11; Bush beat Marlborough, 20/14; Buller beat Hokitika, 17/10; West Coast beat Horowhenua, 24/16
