CHILDREN’S HUNT
GATHERING AT TAUERU YESTERDAY HIGH STANDARDS OF JUMPING ' In the bright warm sunshine, of yesterday a large number of interested spectators gathered at “Hapua,” the residence of Mr and Mrs W. R. Birch, where a children hunt was held. A record number of 40 youthful riders took part in the paperchase, which created keen interest. The standard of performance in the jumping events, which were judged by Mr G. H. Perry, was particularly good. Among the competitors were the four children of their Excellencies, Lord and Lady Galway, the Flons. Mary, Celia, and Isabel, and the Hon Simon MoncktonArundell. The children are spending a week’s holiday with Mr and Mrs Birch. The jumping events resulted — Junior jump: Joan McGuinness, 1; Morgan Mulvaney, 2; Silvia Birch. Intermediate jump: Eleanor Groves, 1; Barbara Birch, 2; Nancy Thompson, 3. Senior jump: June Williams, 1; Hon Isabel Monkton, 2; Betty Brodie, 3. At the conclusion of the programme all present were entertained at afternoon tea.
