GOLDIE PAINTING

PICKED UP BY COLLECTOR IN SYDNEY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Mr T. H. Smith, of Wanganui, a collector of Maori curios, returned from Sydney by the Wanganella, bringing with him an original painting by the well-known Auckland artist, Mr C. F. Goldie, which he accidentally picked up in a curio shop in Sydney, where it formed part of a collection put up for disposal. He has not yet identified the subject of the picture, but it is an excellent example of Mr Goldie’s work, the subject being an old Maori chief.
