LAMBING GENERAL
POSITION IN WAIRARAPA. BEARING TROUBLE EXPERIENCED IN PLACES. Although lambing in the Wairarapa is not far enough advanced to give any indication of percentages it is proceeding very satisfactorily. The mild weather of the past week or two has been most favourable. One well-known farmer states that he has never known two better seasons than those experienced this and last year. Lambing is now general throughout the district and in another three weeks’ time it should be possible to gain a better idea of the general position. So far as lambing has gone this year there have been quite a number of twins. A fair amount of bearing trouble is being experienced among the ewes, in certain areas especially. This affliction had not been so prevalent in the last year or two and it appears that seasonal conditions are at least in part responsible for the trouble. Sheep going into the winter in very high condition and in high condition at lambing time tend to encounter this trouble. The pastures generally are in excellent fettle. The late autumn growth came quickly and disappeared almost as quickly, leaving a a good clean sward of grass for the winter.
