CARTERTON

PARKVALE INSTITUTE (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a fair attendance at the monthly meeting of the Parkvale Woman’s Institute. The meeting opened with the Ode and Friendship and the Aspiration. Members stood in silence for one minute as a mark of respect to the late Mrs Crewe. In a happy speech, Mrs Adlam, who presided, welcomed four visitors from the Kahutara Institute. Mrs Adams gave an interesting report on the recent conference at Wellington. Mrs McKenna gave an instructive demonstration on rug making, showing three methods. She was presented with a dainty shoulder spray and accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The visitors judged the competitions, and the winners were as follow: — Sausage rolls—Mrs C. Jensen, 1; Mrs McGarvie, 2; Mrs J. A. Roberts, 3. Camellia—Mrs Hammond, 1; Mrs R. Gallon, 2; Mrs McGarvie, 3. Junior competition, peanut toffee— Miss E. Martin, 1; Miss E. Brassell, 2; Miss A. Williams, 3. Best three bulbs —Miss A. Williams, 1; Miss E. Brassell, 2; Miss L. Rayner, 3. Afternoon tea was served —the tables being gay with spring bulbs. The singing of the Institute Song, and the National Anthem terminated the meeting. DALEFIELD DAIRY COMPANY. The chairman of directors, Mr R. Bassett, presided at the annual meeting of the palefield Co-operative Dairy Company, and there was a good attendance of shareholders. The retiring directors, Messrs P. Bain and L. J.
