Savage, now has virtually. a_’fan’ mail, and his staff is kept bu oending out replies to letters that have been received at the rate of 150 a day since his indisposition,” said a members of Mr Savage’s staff today. “The number of letters, telegrams and gifts of flowers and fruit can be described only as a national demonstration of the kindness of the people,” he added. Political differences were dropped when a call was made bn Mr Savage today by the Rt Hon J. G. Coates, who had arrived from the south by train the the morning. After spending some time with Mr Savage, Mr Coates remarked “Joe is looking remarkably well.” The Prime Minister’s doctor has approved of Mr Savage making a short visit to the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting at Epsom tomorrow if the weather is suitable to make his first public appearance since last week-end. He also announced that Mr Savage’s health was so greatly improved that there was no difficulty about his returning to Wellington on Monday and resuming his normal activities. Provided that he did not exert himself unduly in the immediate future, there was no reason, he added, why Mr Savage should not become completely well.
A case of fruit comprising samples from various sources of supply in the Pacific islands has been sent to the Prime Minister. Flowers sent him include a profusion of fine spring blooms and a bunch of golden Australian wattle.
