HOPE ABANDONED

MISSING QUEENSLAND LAUNCH. PETROL DRUM FOUND. (Recd This Day, 10 a.m.) BRISBANE, This Day. The finding of a drum of petrol from the Dorisana appears to put beyond all doubt the fate of the launch and hope of finding the Armitage family and Mr Brake has been abandoned. A cablegram from Brisbane on August 22 stated it was feared that the launch Dorisana, which left Mackay fox’ Percy Island a fortnight earlier, had founded in, a storm. On board were Mr Percy Armitage, his wife, and two children, aged eight and ten years respectively, and Leslie Brake, an adult. A search by the steamer Canonbar, six launches, and three aeroplanes failed to find any trace of the Dorisana.
