UNITED STATES NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AUSTRALIAN MEN (GIVE CRISP DISPLAY. MISSES WYNNE AND COYNE DEFEATED. By, Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 10.25 a.m.) BOSTON, August 26, Playing in the men’s semi-finals of the United States doubles championship tennis tournament Quist and Bromwich (Australia) beat .Hopman and Schwartz (Australia), 7/5, 4/6, 6/3, 6/3; Budge and Mako (U.S.A.) beat Allison and Van Ryn (U.S.A.), 6/1, 6/2, 3/6, 10/8. In the , women’s semi-final Madame Mathieu and Mlle Jedrjejowska beat Misses Wynne and Coyne (Australia), 6/4, 6/2. The Australians put on an exhibition game in which they delighted the crowd of 1,800. All played crisply and everybody was satisfied that it was an immeasurably superior solution of an awkward situation to defaulting. The elimination of Misses Wynne and Coyne in thirty minutes was rather inglorious. The pairs did not function as teams. It was just player versus player, with tactics thrown overboard. The stroking of Madame Mathieu and Mlle Jedrjejowska proved superior.
