FATALITY IN RANGES
INQUEST ON ARTHUR FREDRIC. DEATH DUE TO HEART DISEASE. (By Telegraph--Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An opinion that the presence of an army of doctors could not have prevented the death of Arthur Fredric, a cleric, aged 22, in the Tararua Ranges on August 14, was expressed by Dr. P. P. Lynch at an inquest today before the City Coroner (Mr Gilbertson). Members of the party described how Fredric collapsed and died when the party was returning to the Alpha Hut, after an unsuccessful attempt to reach Otaki Forks. Dr. Lynch, who conducted a postmortem examination, said that the diseased condition of Fredric’s heart was such that it might have caused his death at any time, quite apart from any question of effort or strain. Fredric had apparently shown no signs of being in anything but a good state of health, said the Coroner and he was satisfied everything had been done that was possible at the time. A verdict was returned that deceased died from heart disease.
