FERRIER WINS AUSTRALIAN TITLE RUNAWAY VICTORY IN FINAL ADELAIDE, August 25. Jim Ferrier today easily won the final of the Australian amateur golf championship, beating H. R. Payne, of Victoria, eight and six in the 36 holes final. Ferrier is thus the first player to win the open and amateur double since 1907, when the Hon Michael Scott achieved that distinction. Critics say that Ferrier would have beaten the best overseas players on his present form. The profescsional championship was retained by the former title-holder, E. Cremin, of New South Wales, who, after a dour battle, beat C. Booths, also of New South Wales, two and one.
