With reference to the negotiations now proceeding between Sir Robert Craigie, British Ambassador in iokio, and General Ugaki, Japanese Foreign Minister, a statement was made today by the Foreign Office Spokesman, who said: “We have not said that we want anything in exchange for our statement that Japan will respect thirdparty interests in China, , but we think it would be reasonable if other Powers recognised some of • our difficulties in fighting Chiang Kai-shek, and refrained from aiding him.
