STORE SHEEP IN DEMAND PIGS SELL WELL The N.Z. Loan & Mercantile Agency report having held their weekly sale yesterday when they had a fair yarding of sheep, cattle and pigs, which were submitted to a good attendance. Fat sheep just maintained late rates while store sheep were in keen demand at improved prices. Pigs sold particularly well and cattle at late rates. We quote:— Fat sheep: Fat wethers, 24s 6d to 265; Fat ,S.D. ewes, 14s 6d to 17s 6d; light maiden S.D. ewes, 18s 6d; fat ewes, 14s 9d to 16s 6d; light fat hoggets, 18s 6d. Store sheep: Woolly wether hoggets, 20s; Cull hoggets, 8s 6d to 10s. Cattle: Good dairy cow in milk, £ll 15s; cows in milk all winter, 4s to ss; forward cows, £3 10s to £4. Pigs: Slips, 28s 6d; weaners, 20s 6d, 23s to 23s 6d. WRIGHT, STEPHENSON & CO. Wright, Stephenson and Co. report: A fair entry of sheep came forward at Masterton yesterday. There was a good attendance and farmers are now paying more attention to store sheep than a few weeks back. Several pens of hoggets were offered, the quality of which was better than previous yardings this season. Competition was keen and prices hardened. Small pens of wether hoggets sold freely. There was not much change in the fat sheep market. Ewes are about the same, but trading was brisker on wethers and fat hoggets. Pigs sold particularly well. Only after cattle came forward and sold at late rates. Prices:— Sheep—Fat wethers, 265, 26s 9d, 26s 10s, 275; b.f.s., 25s lOd to 27s 6d; fat ewes, 14s 9d to 16s 7d to 17s 6d; fat hoggets, 19s to 20s; woolly wether hoggets, to 225; b.f. hoggets, to 19s 4d; twotooth wethers, to 23s sd; b.f. two-tooths to 20s Id; store ewes, 6s 6d to 8s 3d. Cattle —Fat Dairy cows, to £4 15s; fwd cows, £2 Ils to £2 13s. Pigs—Weaners, 22s to 265; sow to farrow, to £2 10s. FARMERS’ DISTRIBUTING CO The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-op. Distributing Company Ltd offered fair entries of sheep and cattle to the usual attendance of buyers. Fat sheep prices were on a par with those ruling last week. Hoggets were again in keen demand. Realisations:—Fat ewes, 14s 6d to 16s; fat wethers, 24s 6d; woolly ewe hoggets, 30s; woolly wether hoggets, 21s 6d; springing heifers, £4 10s tc £6.
DALGETY AND COMPANY Dalgety and Company offered at their weekly Masterton sale a good yarding of all classes of sheep and they
met a spirited sale. Hoggets were again keenly sought after and the rise in prices at last week’s sale was again maintained, and in some cases exceeded, woolly w.f.w. hoggets ruling from 20s 7d to 225. The demand for b.f. hoggets was better than last week and any of these showing quality sold at advanced rates, making from 19s to 20s. Fat sheep remained firm on last week’s quotations. Prices were: — Sheep: Good woolly, w.f.w. hoggets 20s 6d to 225; good b.f. hoggets 19s to 20s; medium b.f. hoggets, 16s to 16s Bd. One four-year unbroken pony, £6.
