PRICES AT ADDINGTON A WELCOME RECOVERY (By Telegraph —Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 24. Pennings were back to normal at today’s Addington weekly fat stock market, and as a result, there was a welcome recovery in values, noticeably fat cattle. Fat sheep were in demand and prices remained firm for best ewes and wethers throughout, and on an average were about a shilling a head dearer than last week. Quotations Sheep: Extra prime wethers, to 33s 7d- prime, 325; good, 26s to 295; ordinary, 22s to 255; light, 21s 6d; best ewes, 20s 6d to 245; tops, 27s 7d; good, 16s 6d to 19s; ordinary, 12s 6d to 16s; light, down to 12s. There was a better tone in the demand for store ewes and lambs, and one line sold at 13s Id; rising two-tooth ewes, 20s- Id; soundmouthed ewes, 19s 7d; old sheep, down to 6s 9d. There was a slack inquiry for wethers. An entry of 375 fat cattle was the smallest for some considerable time. There was an average advance of 25s for beef on last week, and most good beef made from 40s to 42s 6d a 1001 b; medium, 36s to 38s 6d. Other realisations were: Extra prime steers, to £l9 17s 6d; prime, £l7 10s; medium, £l5 15s; ordinary, £l3 ss; light down, £lO 10s; extra prime heifers, to £l5 7s 6d; prime, £l2 5s medium, £lO 10s; light, down to £8; extra good .cows, £l4 2s 6d; prime, £ll 15s; medium, £9; light, £7. A medium yarding of porkers and a heavy-supply of choppers were yarded in the fat pig section, and good quality sold firmly on last week’s rates. Baconers were "in small supply vvith rates firmer by 2s to 3s a head. Prices were: Choppers, £2 12s 6d to £6 6s; porkers, 35s 6d to £3 6s 6d; with average price a lb, 7}d to 8d; baconers, £3 12s 6d to £5 9s 6d; average price a lb, 7d to 7Jd.
JOHNSONVILLE SALE PRICES FIRMER WELLINGTON, This Day. A small yarding of bullocks, a large yardings of cows and heifers, and a small yarding of sheep came forward at Johnsonville yesterday. The bullocks yarded were chieflly good medium to heavyweight cattle, which met with a good sale with prices showing a firming tendency. Cows and heifers were all of good quality and sold well, prices being firmer by 10s a head. A few vealers came forward, these meeting with a ready sale. The wethers yarded were chiefly heavyweight sheep with a few pens of lighter sorts. All classes sold well at late rates. The yarding of ewes was of indifferent quality, only one or two pens of good heavyweight sheep being penned. All classes sold well, prices being firmer by Is a head. There were a few pens 'of hoggets,' which sold well."’ Quotations were: — Cattle: Prime extra heavy bullocks, £l5 7s 6d to £l5 17s 6d; prime heavy, £l4 5s to £l4 10s; heavy, £l3 to £l4; light and £lO 2s 6d to £11; extra prime heavy cows and heifers, £9 15s to £lO 17s; prime heavy cows and heifers, £9 to £9 12s 6d; cows and heifers, £6 15s to £7 10s; runners, £3 to £4 7s 6d; vealers, 32s 6d to £2 10s; small calves, 13s to 14s. Sheep: Prime extra heavy wethers, 30s to 31s 7d; prime heavy, 28s 3d to 28s 9d; medium, 26s to 26s 9d; prime extra heavy ewes, 22s to 24s 6d; prime heavy, 20s 3d to 21s 3d; medium, 16s to 19s 3d; heavy hoggets, 20s to 225; light, 18s to 19s.
