ROAD CYCLING

WAIRARAPA CLUB. NOTES ON SATURDAY’S RACE. (By “Three Speed.”) The Wairarapa Cycling Club held a 20-miie race to Mount Bruce School and back on Saturday. The weather conditions were perfect although there was a slight breeze. Ten riders faced the starter. W. Gay rode very well to beat L. Green and capture first place, third place going to B. Dooling, who rode very well. R. Killington put up a fine performance to finish fourth. R. Green, who rode off the limit mark, showed good form but having no co-marker found the going a bit hard. C. Dykes recorded the fastest time and his co-marker, J. Brader, gained second fastest time. M. Graham left his co-marker, C. Gourlay, behind to gain third fastest time. K. Woollett, who started by himself found the going too solid without his usual co-marker, R. Copp, who was a non-starter. 8., Harman and D. Wishart were non-starters as they now work on Saturday afternoons. E. Lefort, also a non-starter, is laid up with influenza. The club wish him a speedy recovery. J. McAliece is recovering from his poisoned arm and hopes to compete next Saturday. It is reported that J. Duckett has given up road racing and is waiting for the track season to open. Riders are urged to get some hill training as next Saturday’s race is to the Blairlogie Hotel and return for the Allison Cup. It will be a hard ride.
