FERRIER IN DEVASTATING FORM. AMATEUR GOLF TOURNEY. IN AUSTRALIA. ADELAIDE, August 23. J. Ferrier again struck devasting form in the quarter-finals of the Australian amateur golf championship. He beat the veteran Ivo Whitton, 14 and 13. Ferrier had a morning round of 71. The South Australian, C. L. Winser, slipped badly against W. Rymill, who won, 12 and 11, J. Barkel beat Higgins, 10 and 9, and Payne beat Horman, one up. In the first round of the match play Ferrier beat A. McLachlan, 6 and 5; Winser beat H. Williams, 6 and 4; Barket beat D. Sawers, 7 and 6; Rymill beat D. Jackson, 1 up. In the professional championship, N. von Nida beat Petterson, 7 and 6; G. Naismith beat A. Toogood, 7 and 6; E. Cremin beat Harvey, 1 up; Booth beat Anderson, 3 and 2. In the first round von Nida beat D. Want, 8 and 7; E. Cremin beat D. Stewart, 8 and 6; G. Naismith beat D. Walker, 5 and 4; A. Toogood beat B. Auld, 5 and 4.
