FOOD PRESERVATION
NEW METHOD DEVELOPED IN NATAL AMBITIOUS CLAIM MADE. “END OF REFRIGERATION.” By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 9.55 a.m.) DURBAN, August 22. A method of preserving food by gas has been developed by Dr. Hajay and successfully tested. It is claimed that the method will revolutionise the food industry and end refrigeration. It will keep eggs nine months, and fruit twelve months, costing ten shillings per 30 tons. Sugar is believed to be the basis of the process, which has been patented by a company which is being floated to exploit the method throughout the world. A most important point regarding the new method is that it can be used on aeroplanes, thus enlarging the scope of air ’ transport. Ships fitted with refrigeration plants do not need any alteration.
