LOST IN TARARUAS
CARTERTON LAD “BUSHED.” FOUND BY SEARCH PARTY. Fears were entertained in Carterton yesterday for the safety of Percy Atkins, a 17-year-old lad, who went shooting in the Tararuas at the back of Dalefield on Sunday. A police search party, in charge of Constable B. Watson, of Carterton, assisted by a number of Dalefield residents, found the missing lad yesterday afternoon in the bush near Totara Flats. Atkins lost his way in the bush on Sunday evening and when darkness set in became completely “bushed.” He threw away his pea rifle and, after endeavouring to make his way out by following the streams, spent the night in the bush. He was in an exhausted condition when found, but apart from that apparently suffered little ill effect from his night in the open.
