WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT GLADSTONE. The close of the fourth year of the Gladstone Women’s Institute was marked by a sociaPheld in the Gladstone Hall on Friday, ‘ 19th August. There was a large attendance of members and their friends. * A short and much appreciated concert programme was provided by the following:—Overture, “Rustlings of Spring,” by Miss Mulvey; one-act play, “Spick and Span Stone” by Te Whiti school children under the direction of Miss Admore; songs by Mrs J. Ogilvy; one-act play, “Snowed Up With a Duchess,” by Mrs J. Eaton and the Misses M. Turley, A. Bubb and J. Palmer; Maori haka and poi dances, conducted by Mr and Mrs H. Cowan. The president (Mrs Neil McKay), in a happy speech, thanked those who had helped to make the monthly meetings a success, as well as everyone assisting members to carry out the programme. The ceremony of cutting the birthday cake, the candles on which were lit by the past president, Mrs Joblin, and blown out by the youngest member, Miss N. Bubb, was followed by supper, after which dancing was the order of the evening.
