KAURI TIMBER
PERPETUAL SUPPLIES. PROSPECTS VERY BRIGHT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, August 22. Prospects of securing perpetual supplies of the world-famous timber from the kauri forest areas in North Auckland are very bright indeed, said the Prime Minister, the Rt.-Hon. M. J. Savage, today. The information has been forwarded by forest officers to the Commissioner of State Forests, the Hon. F. Langstone, Who has a fiveyear plan of general afforestation in hand. The forests of North Auckland are unique as they contain the only remaining supplies of kauri, ' the most valuable of all indigenous softwoods, and one of the finest timber trees in the world. Active measures for perpetuating kauri forests . and rationing timber supplies are in operation.
