MEETING AT UPPER HUTT. MR J. F. THOMPSON’S CAMPAIGN. Mr J. F. Thompson. National Party candidate for the Wairarapa seat, attended a meeting of the Wairarapa electorate of the New Zealand National Party in St. Hilda’s Hall, Upper Hutt, on Saturday night. Mr L. J. Fairbrother presided and there were 98 delegates present from all parts of the electorate. Mr Thompson addressed the meeting and was warmly received. Miss O. Wolters, Mr D. Jones, and Mr L. J. Fairbrother, the delegates from the executive, reported on the proceedings at the National Party conference held on August 4. , A committee consisting of Messrs L. J. Fairbrother, R. Barton, J. F. Thompson and the secretary were authorised to purchase suitable loudspeaker equipment for use by the candidate. Arrangements were made for Mrs W. J. Polson to speak in the Anzac Hall, Featherston, on August 29. It was decided that requests for speakers be brought to the notice of the divisional committee. Reference was made to the long illness of the Hon. A. D. McLeod, and a motion was passed conveying to him the sympathy of the executive and expressing a wish for his speedy return to good health. At the conclusion of the meeting, and after supper had been served, the floor was cleared for dancing.
