The eighth birthday of Princess Margaret Rose, younger daughter of their Majesties King George VI. and Queen Elizabeth, was celebrated yesterday. Princess Margaret Rose was born on August 21, 1930, being four years younger - than her sister, Princess Elizabeth, who was born on April 21, 1926. Mr R. F. Buick, Mt Bruce, Masterton, who left New Zealand on the farmers’ tour last April, left London for New Zealand, via U.S.A., on August 7. Mr Ray McLachlan, of the staff of the State Advances Corporation, Masterton, has received notice of his transfer on promotion to the Taumarunui branch. Mr B. Chapman, of Morrinsville, and formerly a resident of Masterton, was a visiting delegate to the golden jubilee celebration of St Michael’s Hibernian Lodge during the week-end. The Hon W. Lee Martin, Mrs Martin, and Miss Martin, who attended the golden jubilee dinner of'St Michael’s Hibernian lodge in Masterton on Saturday night, returned to Wellington at the conclusion of the function. Professor F. L. W. Wood, professor of history at Victoria University College, Wellington, and Mr G. R. Powles, Wellington, left for Auckland by train at the week-end. They are to attend the British Commonwealth Relations conference to be held in the Blue Mountains, New South Wales, next month.
Dr Alastair Watson, a son of Mr and Mrs T. F. Watson, of Masterton, who left New Zealand recently to take up work in the war area in China, arrived at Hankow on August 2, and was leaving there immediately to join Dr Grey at Chengchow, 300 miles to the north of Hankow. Dr Maaka, who accompanied Dr Watson from New Zealand, has taken up duty at Ichang, 400 miles to the west of. Hankow.
