SHORTAGE OF WIREMEN
(To. the Editor) Sir, —I read with interest in your paper today””a report on the Wairarapa Electric Power Board’s meeting with reference to the serious position the Power Board is now in, owing to the shortage of electrical wiremen, in carrying out installation work. It was stated that the private electrical firms could not assist the board in this work and I would most emphatically state that at. no time has the board asked - me to assist them. In fact, they have given me the impression that they would prefer to do all the contracting themselves; as Mr S. Dalgleish admitted when he said: “We have been trying to grab too much.” I could answer Mr Dalgleish’s query as to why there are so few contractors in this district quite simply by stating that the board is one of the few that handle trading and contracting in New Zealand, most boards being quite content to sell the electric- • ity, install service lines and assist the contractors to finance installations and get the work done. Personally, I would be only too pleased to co-operate with the board in overcoming any difficulties with which they are faced. —I am, etc., J. BOUZAID, Electrical Contractor, Masterton. August 18,' 1938.
