CRISP BATTING
BARNETT AT TOP OF FORM ARMY BOWLING PUNISHED. EASY WIN FOR AUSTRALIA. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 18. The Australians resumed their first innings against the Army team today, when the weather was fine and warm. Barnes was soon out lbw, after a stay of 1{ hours. He batted confidently throughout. Barnett was at the top of his form and hit crisply and with severity. His score included a 4, 6 and a 4 off successive balls from Knapp before he threw his wicket away.
Australia’s innings closed for 299, of which Barnett scored 58, 46 of which were compiled today. After Harbottle and Grove had added 41 for the second wicket the Army team collapsed against O’Reilly’s spin, flight and length overpowering the batsmen. They were amost equally futile against Fleetwood-Smith, playing vaguely hopeful strikes. The innings lasted only 105 minutes and produced 119 runs. Australia won by an innings and 67 runs.
