“THE CINGALEE”
AGAIN RECEIVED WITH HIGH FAVOUR. With its colourful scenes, delightful music and many-sided appeal, “The Cingalee” was again received with enthusiastic approval by a large audience when it was presented by the Masterton Amateurs in the Opera House last evening. Much as the success of the comedy is due to the uniformly excellent work of the principals, supporting artists and ballet, a great deal depends also upon the splendid work of the chorus and orchestra under the direction of Mr R. J. Young. The orchestra meets all demands most capably and does full justice to an exceptionally fine musical score. From the chorus also, there is an admirable response. The singing, spirited but perfectly controlled and rich in volume and quality, adds greatly to the enjoyment of the audiences that are nightly applauding the presentation of “The Cingalee.” At tonight’s performance, Miss Bebe Francis will be replaced in the part of Nanoya by her understudy, Miss Winnie Young, a youthful actress of marked ability who is expected to acquit herself with full credit. Miss Francis will resume the part at the concluding performance of the season tomorrow evening.
