POWER SUPPLY
PROGRESS WITH EXTENSIONS. RECORD INCREASE IN DEMAND. (“Times-Age” Special.) In his report for the month to the Wairarapa Power Board the Engineer, Mr H. B. Keenan, stated: —“Owing to bad weather, we have lost about twelve days on the Rangitumau extension. All poles have been erected and most of the cables run. We hope to complete and liven the total line about August 25. The survey and plans for the Miki Miki extension have been completed, but permission to carry out the extension has only been received from the District Electrical Engineer and the Masterton County Council. We ' still await permission from the Public Works Department and Post and Telegraph Department. However, we anticipate these will be forthcoming shortly, and a start will be made with construction as soon as Rangitumau is completed. A start has been made with the survey and erection of the low tension reticulation for the state housing block in Masterton. A scheme of street lighting for this block is at present under consideration. ■ “The increase of 24.3 per cent in units and 25.1 per cent in maximum demand is the highest ever recorded for July in the board’s history. The month of July is recognised as a month for comparatively low load factor, the highest load recorded being 69.8 per cent. This is on account of weather conditions and the peak heating load used during cold snaps. However, as the monthly load factor is above last year’s annual load factor, the position is very satisfactory.”
