ELECTRIC POWER

MEETING OF WAIRARAPA BOARD. SATISFACTGRY RETURNS SHOWN. ; (“Times-Age” Special.) The chairman, Mr A. Campbell Pearce, presided at the monthly meeting of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board, held at Carterton this, morning. Others present were: Messrs S. Dalgleish, W. A. Tate, M. B. Tait, C. R. Holmes, W. Howard Booth, H. P. Hugo, F. C. Daniell and J. W. Colquhoun. The secretary-manager, Mr G. Brown, stated that the revenue returns for July again disclosed a satisfactory position. The net revenue for the month was £5050 Is 5d as compared with £4867 Ils Id for the corresponding month last year. For the first four months of the year net revenue amounted to £19,086 10s 4d. which was a gain on the estimate of £llB2 10s 4d. For the corresponding period of last year net revenue totalled £18,950 14s 4d. Although the number of units sold for ordinary domestic supply, excluding cooking, had increased over the four months by 99,504, the net revenue received from that particular load showed a reduction of £1307. The new domestic rate had had the effect of encouraging and making possible a greatly extended use of electricity. The indications were that the cost of power for the quarter would exceed the estimate by approximately £4OO. That would be more than compensated for by the increase over the estimate of the revenue from both ordinary sales and bulk supply. Receipts from the trading department for the first four months of the year totalled £5679 15s lid, as compared with £5807 3s Gd for the corresponding period of last year. The returns were satisfactory, but the position in the installation department was not. It was reported that the second instalment of £12,500 of the £25,000 loan had been received from the State Advances Corporation and all details in connection with the loan completed. Mr Brown stated that the capital expenditure for the first four months of the year totalled £4832 2s lid. It was reported that a meeting of settlers in the Western Lake district had been held to consider proposals for reticulating the district. Substantial guarantees were oflered and there was a possibility of the extension being proceeded with. The cash statement showed a 'credit balance at July 31 in the power fund of £2896 5s lOd, in the construction fund of £ 2800 and in the imprest account of £45 12s 9d. Accounts amounting to £5220 17s 7d were passed.
