ARMY COLLAPSES

CRICKET MATCH AGAINST AUSTRALIANS EIGHT WICKETS FALL IN AN HOUR. McCABE GIVES SPECTACULAR DISPLAY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 9.15 a.m.) LONDON, August 17. The two-day match between Australia and the Army began in warm weather and genial picnic conditions at the fine Aidershot grounds today. Melsome won. tne toss and decided to bat. By the lunch interval the Army had scored 78 for two wickets. McCormick, bowling at a mere muscle-loosening pace, bowled Harbottle in the second over. An unusual incident of a quiet morning’s play took place when Fingleton, from longfield, hit both wickets in one throw. . When Hamilton, who had shown a pleasing range of strokes, and Hudson, regarded as one of the Army’s best batsmen, were dismissed the side quickly collapsed, eight wickets falling an hour for 35 runs. Gaining valuable practice, Fingleton and Brown scored 65 in 45 minutes before Brown was dismissed. In a brief, spectacular display, ■ McCabe provided the best, batting of the day. Then Fingleton and Barnes scored steadily at the expense of the Army’s uniformly medium-paced bowlers. Badcock also displayed good form. Details are: — ARMY First Innings.
