THE AUSTRALIAN TOURNEY. . SUB-COMMITTEE ON RULES APPOINTED. MELBOURNE, August 17. The basketball conference today appointed Miss E. Hull, president of the Australian association, as chairman and Mrs P. Rooney, New South Wales, Miss M. Hargreave, South Australia, and Mrs H. D. Muir and Miss M. E. Armstrong, New Zealand, as the subcommittee of rules.
The Australian officials favour the introduction of the New Zealand personal contact rule and the elimination of the centre-bouncp rule. In a match against South Australia today, New Zealand were beaten, 4714. Showers kept the grass greasy and the New Zealanders found it difficult to keep a footing. They were handicapped by the personal contact allowed under the Australian rules. South Australia’s shooting was accurate. The New Zealand team was: Miss M. Tangye, Miss E. Neame, Miss M. Howe. Miss M. Martin, Nwiss M. Matangi, Miss J. Mitchell, Miss R. Butcher. Other games today resulted: New South Wales beat Tasmania, 20-15; Victoria beat Queensland, 53-9.
