LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

ANNUAL MEETING YESTERDAY. The annual meeting of the Masterton League of Mothers was held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon. The president (Mrs L. B. Maunsell) was in the chair and there was a large attendance. Visitors were present from Greytown and an apology was received from the president of the Carterton branch. The annual report gave evidence of a very successful year, the membership being now 237. The league choir continues to play a most enjoyable and helpful part, its items adding greatly to the success of the meetings.. 'During the year concerts were given at the Masterton Hospital, the Buchanan Home and the League of Mothers branch at Greytown. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: President, Mrs L. B. Maunsell; vice-presidents, Mesdames J. Davie, E. J. Rich, D. McNeur, F. J. Parker, J. H. Irving, G. G. Hancox and A. E. Major; committee, Mesdames E. J. Coleman, J. Conly, M. Hope, E. G. Norman, L. Hunter, J. Blackwood, A. A. Ball and A. Corskie; hon secretary and treasurer, Mrs W. A. Michael; magazine secretary, Mrs F. A. Judd; card secretary, Mrs N. Lee. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect for the late Mrs W. Chennells, who was one of the foundation members of the branch, and also in sympathy with Mesdames W. Birch and N. Prior, both of whom have suffered bereavements. '

The choir sang “Greeting,” “Land of Hope and Glory” and an Anzac song. The speaker of the day was Miss Higginson, Matron of the Greytown Hospital, who gave an account of the visit she and other nurses made in company’'with the Returned Soldiers’ Contingent to the Anzac reunion in Sydney in April last. Miss Higginson held and greatly interested her audience as she conjured up a vivid picture of. that thrilling and impressive occasion.

On concluding Miss Higginson was very heartily thanked. The tea hostesses were Mesdames E. J. Brown, L. Emery, H. Speight, C. W. Walker, M. H. Wadham and Miss Robieson.
