HONOUR FOR KENT
BIGGEST COUNTV SCORE AGAINST AUSTRALIAN TEAM. DASHING INNING BY AMES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. (Recd This Day, 9.10 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 16. The weather was cool but windy for the resumption of the match between Australia and Kent. Amds, without repeating yesterday’s fireworks, scored steadily, eleven runs coming off Fleetwood-Smith’s first over, in which Walker fumbled a difficult chance of stumping him. Kent became the first county to exceed 300 runs against Australia. Ames went on splendidly and was particularly severe on White, but eventually fell a victim to Waite, who uprooted his off stump. Ames hit three 6’s and fifteen 4’s. Todd, after a tedious display, played a ball from Waite on to his wicket. Waite maintained a high standard of accuracy. Knott batted cautiously. Davies soon fell a victim to Ward and the remaining batsmen were all out just before lunch, leaving Australia seven runs to get to win. Walker stumped two of Kent’s batsmen in the second innings, making three for the match.
Australia sent Fleetwood-Smith and White in to bat and obtained the necessary runs without the loss of a wicket, thus winning by ten wickets. The following are the scores: — AUSTRALIA.
