Damages Awarded for Injuries.

For the loss of the ends of the fingers of his right hand, through an accident with a power press, the jury in the Supreme Court, Wellington, yesterday allowed Ewing George Haise, aged 15, who sued through his father, George Haise, Petone, also named as a plaintiff, £987 Is damages. Defendants were J. Gadsden and Co., Ltd., tinplate printers and canister makers, Petone. Of the damages awarded £7 Is is special damages, the full amount claimed.

Renall Street Crossing. A letter was received at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council from the Commissioner of Transport dealing with the Renall Street level crossing. The Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, said that the Engineer had carried out improvements to the crossing to the full satisfaction of the Works Committee, while recently he had improved the visibility still further. The Commissioner is to-be advised that the crossing was now considered satisfactory by the Borough Traffic Inspector and application is also to l?e made for the erection of a warning bell.
