BEAUTIFUL GLOVES

TO DRESS UP ONE’S COSTUME. Everything from strong leather to delicate chiffon has been pressed into glove service this season, so a London correspondent writes. Some gloves are made in two different skins, the back being of one and the palm of another. As for colour, gloves have thrown off all restraint. They may be had to match any part of one’s ensemble. Novelty lacings, trimmings, and embroideries add interest. There are washable gloves in white leather, for instance, that lace up the back to the fingers with a coloured lacing that may be removed before washing. For wear with tweeds, a combination of beige and brown suede is fashionable in London, we learn, the two shades being used for alternate fingers and continuing in stripes down the back of the hand. Knitted gloves of mercerised cotton or linen thread in bright colours are again popular with sports clothes.

Molyneux is introducing short white suede mittens for day wear and long satin mittens for evening. Stiebel is using unusual gloves to accent his suits and gowns—long gloves in gold taffeta with an evening frock in. parma violet; gloves and scarf of hyacinth blue chiffon with a pastel pink frock. Glenny puts gold kid gloves with a two-piece suit in corn and black.
