CRANE RETURNS
COMPLETION OF OVERHAUL. Looking spick-and-span in a new coat of paint, the crane which has been doing duty in the Masterton railway station yards for many years past returned to Masterton yesterday morning after having undergone a complete overhaul at Petone. It is now awaiting reassembly and this work may possibly be carried out today or , tomorrow. It will be remembered that the crane, which has the capacity to lift two tons, has been the subject recently of complaint by carriers and others. It has been declared to be inadequate for present-day requirements and too unweildy to use. Some weeks ago it was decided to send the crane to the railways workshops for overhaul with a view to making it easier to handle. The results of the overhaul will not be apparent, of course, until the crane is in working trim.
