COUNSEL OF CAUTION
ITALY WARNS GERMANY BALBO’S REPORTED MISSION ATTITUDE TOWARDS CZECH DISPUTE By Telegraph—Press Association. Conyright. LONDON, August 13. The Munich correspondent of the “Sunday Times” says that Marshal Balbo, Governor of Tripoli and former Italian Air Minister, who visited Hitler as the Duce’s emissary to obtain an elucidation of the present German military measures, also to advise restraint and caution, told Marshal Goering that, despite his sympathy with Germany regarding Czechoslovakia, Italy would not support a development of the conflict, owing to the fact that it would precipitate action in Central Europe. REPORTS AND DENIALS REACTIONS IN EUROPEAN CAPITALS Reports concerning the reactions in European capitals, at the end of last week, to the international situation are as follow: — In Berlin the official Nazi news agency characterised the reports of extraordinary German military activity as a further attempt to disturb European political opinions. In Paris a conference took place between M Bonnet, French Foreign Minister, and the British Charge d’Affaires, at which Germany’s activities were discussed. A statement was afterward issued which said that there was no reason for anxiety, but that France was constantly vigilant. > In Prague considerable anxiety is felt regarding the German manoeuvres, although it is believed that no surprises are likely while Lord Runciman is arbitrating.
