AIRCRAFT WORKERS
THE STRIKE IN AUSTRALIA EXTENSION PREDICTED BY MR CURTIN UNLESS PARTIES ARE BROUGHT TOGETHER CANBERRA, August 13. An extension of the engineers’ strike at the Commonwealth Aircraft Corporation’s works at Melbourne is forecast by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr Curtin, unless the Prime Minister calls the parties together for conciliation. “I would warn the Government regarding industrial problems,” said Mr Curtin, “that it would be well advised to consult the unions. Conciliation is a far wiser policy than the rule of the mailed fist.” The engineers at Footscray and Maribyrnong have decided to cease work whenever the union executive so orders, if not satisfactory settlement of the aircraft factory , dispute is reached. .
