ST. ANDREW SOCIETY
MARTINBOROUGH GATHERING. CONCERT AND DANCE LAST NIGHT. I An enjoyable gathering was held at Martinborough last evening by the St Andrew Society, a much appreciated concert programme being followed by dancing. The Wairarapa Pipe Band, Carterton, was; in attendance and during the evening contributed a selection of musical items. Other contributions were: Songs, “Once Again in Dear Old Scotland”; “Angus McDonald,” Miss D. Jamieson; “Lady of Argyll,” “Mary,” Mr V. Greer; “Border Ballad,” “Hail Caledonia,” Mr William C. Mann; Hebridean songs, “To People Who Have Gardens,” “Can Ye Sew Cushions?” Miss Grace Gaudin; duets, “Afton Water,” “Will Ye No Come Back Again?” Mrs Milne and Miss Jamies|or(; recitation, “Bairnies Cuddle Doon,” Mrs R. Miller; humorous recitation, “For he was Scotch and so was she,” Miss Jean Douglas; dance, Seantriubhais, Miss Edna Corlett; Sailor’s Hornpipe, Leslie Corlett. Several encores were demanded. A Scottish play, “Drumgarth,” was splendidly done. Those taking part were: Mrs R. Miller, Miss M. Kane, Messrs William C. Mann, V. McKeague, Graham Dickel, Findlay Milne and V. Greer. The music for the dancing was provided by Mills’s Orchestra and by Pipers Johns and Fisher. It was announced that the Wairarapa Pipe Band would be holding a social on Thursday, August 30, at Carterton, in an effort to raise funds for the purchase of uniforms. It was also stated that the Wellington Caledonian Society, with its band, was attending the St Andrew Society gathering to be held in Masterton on September 3 and that a similar gathering would be held at Carterton on September 10.
