STAMP RARITY

BIG PRICE FOR MISPRINT. There has lately been sold by Harmers, of Bond Street, London, the world’s second highest-priced postage stamp. When in 1885 Sweden issued its new Three Skilling stamp, the colour of the issue was green. The specimen just sold is yellow, and it was originally thought that exposure to light had caused discoloration. But test proved that yellow was its original colour, and that the stamp was a rare misprint. Hence its very high price, round about £5,000. The most expensive stamp in the world is still the famous one-cent British Guiana which two years ago fetched £7,500 —a price paid for rarity, not for any error in production. The most valuable collection ever formed belonged to Count von Ferrary, who was living in France when the Great War broke out. Tragedy overtook the Count and his collection, for it was sold as “enemy property,” realising over £400,000. Dealers from all over - the world came to Paris to see and if possible purchase some of this wonderful collection.
