FEATHERSTON
LITERARY institute. A meeting of the Literary Institute Committee was held yesterday, Mr R. W. Matthews presiding over a good attendance. The chairman (Mrs Clapshaw) reported that 50 books had been added to the library list (including additions to the children’s section) since last meeting. All the new books were being covered as well' as a number of the old ones. They were also being catalogued and arranged on the shelves in alphabetical order. The register system had been scrapped and a card index substituted. Four new subscribers had joined the library. Mr Shepherd reported that the Country Library Service representatives had met the executive committee and outlined the scheme. The Rev J. T. Holland thought it would be a good move to join, provided the committee could see the way in regard to finance. After the matter had been fully discussed it was resolved that the committee recommend to the Borough Council that the Institute join the service, and that the travelling representatives of the C.L.S. be invited to explain their service at the next meeting of the council. EUCHRE TOURNAMENT. The South Featherston euchre tournament and dance on Thursday even- . ing was well attended. The winners of the euchre were: Ladies, Mrs Ashworth 1, Mrs Hoskings 2. Men: Mr Cheer 1, Mr R. Fuge 2. The Monte Carlo was won by Mr J. Thurston and Miss P. Gain first, and Mr Cheer and Mrs A. Gain second. REST ROOM. A meeting of the committee responsible for the endeavour to establish a ladies’ rest room in Featherston was held yesterday, when it was reported that the' ladies’ committee (Mesdames Shepherd, R. A.
