PREPARING FOR WAR
GAYDA ON THE ATTITUDE OF ITALY CAPABLE OF MAXIMUM OF OFFENCE ARMED DETERMINATION DEMANDED « By Telegraph—Press Association. Copyright. ROME, August 11. Signor Virginio Gayda, “Mussolini’s mouthpiece,” commenting in the Giornale d’ltalia,” on Signor Mussolini’s speech, says that in face of the general darkening of the European world the situation is exacting from every country an armed determination to be ready. This means that Italy must be capable of the maximum of offence. The experimental exercises have confirmed that Italy is readier than ever.
“Italy had no illusions about peace, and ’is preparing for war,” declared Signor Mussolini when reviewing 25,000 officers and men in Rome. “While guns are booming in so many parts of the world,” he said, “illusion is folly and unpreparedness a crime. We ;are, therefore, getting ready. Italians have only one privilege and ambition —to bear arms in defence of the Fatherland.”
