HURDLES TO PADISHAH. FOURTH START OVER FENCES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, August 11. The win of a maiden hurdler, Padishah, in the Grand National Hurdle Race was the feature of the second day of the Canterbury Jockey Club’s Grand National meeting at Riccarton today. It was only his fourth start over hurdles. A big upset occurred in the principal flat race, the Islington Handicap, when the rank outsider, Cape Gabo, came home with only £47 10s invested on his winning chance. Results: — Hunt Cup, about two miles and a half.—2/1 Gold Wren, 9.12 (J. Muir) 1; 1/2 Nightbound, 10.12 (R. Beale) 2; 7/7 Tomcat, 9.14 (Jennings) 3. Also started: 6/6 Arctic Star, 5/5 Bally Brit, 3/3 El Caballo, 4/4 Uncle Jim, 8/8 Culverden, 10/9 Bonny Buff, 9/10 Bright Red. Half a length; 10 lengths. El Caballo was fourth. Time, 5.26 4-5.
