CHESS

* VISIT OF AUSTRALIAN CHAMPION MATCHES IN MASTERTON NEXT TUESDAY Chess players and others in the district will be interested in the forthcoming .visit to Masterton of Mr Gregory Koshnitsky, a famous Australian player. On Tuesday evening, August 16, in the Odd Fellows’ Hall, Mr Koshnitsky will play games simultaneously against all-comers. All chess players in the district are invited to attend, and to bring their own men and boards, as no spare sets are available.

Since coming to Australia, Mr Koshnitsky has won the Queensland championship three times, and now holds the New South Wales title for the fourth time. In 1932 he won the Australian championship without losing a game. As a simultaneous player, he made an Australian record in Sydney in 1934, playing 143 games in 11 hours, with the fine score of 104 wins, 33 draws, and only six losses.
