GREYTOWN
HOCKEY NOTES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The junior’boys will have no competition game on Saturday, but they are all asked to appear at the grounds at 2 p.m. in order to engage in practice. The ladies’ club members are asked to note that subscriptions are overdue and they must assist the club by paying them right away. The Wairarapa Association’s Art Union will close on August 15, and all players possessing books should return them on that date. Enthusiasts will regret to hear that owing to the serious accident which befell her small daughter last week, Mrs McCarthy will be unable to take her place in the team to go to Gisborne. The Wairarapa ladies’ team is a well balanced group and should do as well as could be expected from any team that has gone from here of late years. The team will leave on August 25 under the managership of Mr Maloney with Mrs R. Foster as chaperone. The surprise of the tournament draw is that Canterbury is to play Eastern on the opening day. This is much to be regretted. In that particular section, whoever wins that game will, I prophesy win the section and the tourney. The famous Eastern team will be hard to beat. Last week’s Carterton v. Greytown match was a splendid exhibition, not of hockey, but of the comradeship and genuine friendliness of the players.
GOLF DRAW The draw for the Greytown Golf Club’s championships on Saturday is as follow: — Intermediate: P. Stunell. a bye, T. Gold v H. G. Carter, J. W. Tate v A. G. Rhodes, N. McLeod v B. Haigh. Junior: Ray Ingley v H. Keltie, A. Webster v A. G. Peterson, Dr Oakley v C. L. Curtin, A. Haigh v A. Carter.
