GREAT HOLLYWOOD REVUE

“HELLO POPEYE.” Mr Billy Costello (the original Popeye the Sailorman) is to be presented here by J. C. Williamson Theatre in Frank Neil’s stupendous Hollywood Revue, “Hello Popeye,” at the Regent Theatre on Tuesday afternoon next beginning at 3.30 and on Tuesday night commencing at 8 o’clock. When the box plans were opened for the Auckland season of “Hello Popeye” there was a record demand for seats. Daily a large number of people gathered outside the hotel at which Mr Costello resides with the object of obtaining a glimpse of the original Popeye, and he was besieged before and after every performance by crowds of grown-ups and children. Critics are almost unanimous in stating that Mr Costello is even more entertaining on the stage than he is on the screen, and at the close of his performance each afternoon and evening, he was called before the curtain again and again. Joey Porter, the young London Music Hall comedian works in “Hello Popeye” in conjunction with Syd. Page, one of New York’s leading comedians, and they are assisted in their comedy scenes by Miss Peggy Earle and Ruth Rudie, two very fine eccentric dancers and comediennes. The Elite Trio are artistic ballroom Adagio Dancers, and the Kermonde Brothers sensational acrobats. Mi' Billy Rayes is a brilliant comedy juggler from the leading New York theatres, and Herrie Dargie is described as a wonder of the Harmonica. The Ritchie Brothers are International tap dancers. There are many other artists in “Hello Popincluding Kay Zammit, Mavis Ritchie, and Betty Lambert, also Frank Neil’s famous Tivoli Beauty Ballet and chorus. The box plans are now at Perry’s.
